Nathan Almond, MD, MPH
Dr. Almond is the current Aerospace Medicine Program Director. He is board certified in Aerospace Medicine, Occupational Medicine, and General Preventive Medicine. He will be teaching management and administration and operational medicine as part of the Aerospace Medicine breakout review session.

Robert Dana Bradshaw, MD, MPH
Dr. Bradshaw is an Associate Professor at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) and Medical Director of the Student Health Center and Occupational Health for the EVMS Medical Group. Previously, while joint faculty at the EVMS MPH program, he was also Project Director for the multi-institution collaborative Commonwealth Public Health Center Training grant. Prior to coming to EVMS he held a position as District Health Director of the five county Rappahannock-Rapidan Health District of the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) for three years, following 28 years of service as an Air Force medical officer. While in the military, Dr. Bradshaw was Program Director of the General Preventive Medicine (GPM) Residency at Uniformed Services University (USU) in Bethesda, MD and faculty in Preventive Medicine and Biometrics. During his military career he also held positions as Director of Military Health System programs at the DoD Global Emerging Infections Surveillance and Response System and as Chief of Preventive Medicine for the AF Surgeon General, in addition to faculty positions in Family Medicine at USU and at a Family Medicine residency program. At the AF Surgeon General’s office, Dr. Bradshaw was privileged to serve on the Armed Forces Epidemiology Board, as DoD representative to the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, as AF liaison to the US Preventive Services Task Force, and on CDC's Yellow Fever Vaccine Safety working group. For the past decade he has taught the board review course on “Clinical Preventive Medicine – Infectious Disease” for the American College of Preventive Medicine. He received his MD degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in 1980 and Master of Public Health from USU in 1997, after completing his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Abilene Christian University in 1976. He is specialty trained in both Family Medicine and Public Health and General Preventive Medicine, and completed the faculty development fellowship in Family Medicine at the University of North Carolina (UNC) Chapel Hill. He has active medical licensure in the states of Virginia and Texas. His interests and expertise include the epidemiology of infectious diseases, global health and travel medicine. He has traveled to 50 countries internationally, including field malaria research in Kenya and short term medical missions to Bangladesh, Peru, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic.

Ned Calonge, MD, MPH
Ned Calonge, MD, MPH, is the President and CEO of The Colorado Trust, a private grantmaking foundation dedicated to achieving health equity for all Coloradans. He is an Associate Professor of Family Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and an Associate Professor of Epidemiology at the Colorado School of Public Health. Nationally, he serves as the Chair of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Community Preventive Services Task Force. He chairs the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Health’s Board on Population Health and Public Health Practice and serves on the National Academies’ Roundtable on the Promotion of Health Equity. Dr. Calonge is past Chair of the United States Preventive Services Task Force, past Chair of CDC’s Evaluating Genomic Applications in Practice and Prevention Working Group and ongoing consultant for and past member of the Secretary’s Advisory Committee on Heritable Disorders in Newborns and Children. Dr. Calonge serves as a board member for Delta Dental of Colorado, as Chair of the Board of Directors for Grantmakers in Health, and as a board member for the Colorado Association of Funders. Prior to coming to The Trust, Dr. Calonge was the Chief Medical Officer of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. Dr. Calonge received his BA in Chemistry from The Colorado College, his MD from the University of Colorado and his MPH from the University of Washington. He was elected to the National Academy of Medicine in 2011.

Susan Cassidy,, M.D., J.D.
Dr. Cassidy is a physician and an attorney with broad expertise in clinical care, cognitive issues, health law, health care conflict resolution, and business leadership. Her experience ranges from direct patient care to advocating change in national health care policies. As the Medical Director for the NFL Player Benefits Plan, Dr. Cassidy had a key role in the design and execution of the NFL Player Neurocognitive Benefit. Since leaving the NFL Player Benefit Plan, Dr. Cassidy formed CRITICALMD to provide assistance to patients, families, elder and estate attorneys, and wealth management professionals. Services include: mediation, cognitive capacity assessments, Personalized Medical Planning, home care and assisted living evaluations, medical advocacy, and referrals.

Her clinical experience includes; private medical practice and Medical Director positions at IBM and at Aetna Health Plans. She had a lead role on Ford Motor Company’s Health Care Team in Ford’s bargaining with the UAW, serving on Michigan Blue Cross Blue Shield's Board of Directors. After Ford, she was a Senior Director and then Vice President at Sanofi Pharmaceuticals.

As CEO of a medical device company, Dr. Cassidy drafted legislation, The Breast Cancer Patient Equity Act, to mandate equity in Medicare coverage of prosthetics for women with breast cancer.

Dr. Cassidy is a Board Certified Internist who received her medical degree from Vanderbilt University Medical Center and her Juris Doctor degree from University of Connecticut School of Law. In addition to Board certification in internal medicine, she completed a Psychiatry internship at Vanderbilt.

She is a faculty member teaching Public Health Law for the American College of Preventive Medicine. While serving as a coach for Georgetown Law School’s International Mediation Competition Team, she taught mediation as an Adjunct Professor of Law at the George Washington University School of Law.

Dr. Cassidy is an experienced mediator. Representative matters include: Guardianships, Probate, Professional Privileges, Appropriateness of Care, Family Issues, Professional Relationships and Conduct, Crisis Management, Ethical Considerations, End of Life Decision-making, and Adverse Events.

She is a nationally recognized speaker known for her expertise and the passion she brings to a variety of medical and legal topics.

David DeLonga, MD, PhD
David M. DeLonga, MD, PhD is currently serving as a staff radiologist and nuclear medicine physician at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, VA. Dr. DeLonga is a graduate of the Navy's aerospace medicine residency program and a former Naval Flight Surgeon and FAA Aviation Medical Examiner who is board certified in aerospace medicine, occupational medicine, nuclear medicine, and diagnostic radiology with a certificate of additional qualification in nuclear radiology. Dr. DeLonga is an active general aviation pilot and aircraft owner, and has over 5,000 hours of flight experience in single and multi-engine fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft, gliders, and seaplanes.

James Fraser, MD
Dr. Fraser completed a thirty-year Navy career and retired as a Captain (O6) in December 1973. He holds degrees of Bachelor of Arts, Master of Public Health and Doctor of Medicine, all from the University of Oklahoma. He is certified in the specialties of Preventive Medicine (Aerospace Medicine) and Family Practice. He is a Fellow of the Aerospace Medical Association and the American Academy of Family Practice. He is an emeritus member of the Society of U.S. Naval Flight Surgeons where he served as President 2002 - 2003. In January 2004, he was selected for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Executive Service and served as the Manager, Medical Specialties in the Office of Aerospace Medicine at FAA Headquarters in Washington, D.C. In April 2006, he was appointed the Deputy Federal Air Surgeon. In February 2014 he was appointed the Federal Air Surgeon. He retired from the FAA in January 2017 and currently serves as a consultant to the Allied Pilots Association.

Nimisha Kalia, MD, MPH, MBA
Dr. Kalia is currently the North America Medical Leader at Procter & Gamble and currently holds academic appointments at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and the Dell Medical School, University of Texas at Austin. She previously served as faculty at New York Presbyterian/ Well Cornell Medical College.

She has consulted on occupational medicine projects for large academic hospital systems, Fortune 500 corporations and international clients. She brings experience in program development, implementation and assessment and workers’ compensation programs.

Alex Krist, MD, MPH
Alex Krist, MD, MPH, is a Professor of Family Medicine and Population Health at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond Virginia and a practicing family physician at the Fairfax Family Practice residency. He is the director of the Virginia Ambulatory Care Outcomes Research Network (ACORN), a collection of over 500 primary care practices, throughout Virginia representing the full spectrum of primary structures and cultures. Dr. Krist is a member and Chair of the U.S Preventive Services Task Force and the director of community engaged research for VCU's Center for Clinical and Translational Research. His personal research interests focus on implementation of preventive recommendations, patient centered care, shared decision-making, cancer screening, health information technology, and practice transformation. Dr Krist’s work has resulted in sustained improvements to primary care throughout Virginia that have helped patients get recommended preventive services, improved patient-clinician communication, advanced personal health records to better engage patients in care, and create clinical-community collaborations to address unhealthy behaviors.

Liana Lianov, MD, MPH, FACPM
As an innovative leader in lifestyle medicine, Dr. Lianov has advanced the movement in the US and internationally, including facilitating the panel that developed the lifestyle medicine core competencies and publishing its recommendations. She currently serves as the Chair of the Happiness Science and Positive Health Committee of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM), vice-chair of the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine, and President of the Positive Health and Wellness Division of the International Positive Psychology Association. A few of her notable past positions include serving as president of the ACLM, Director for the Healthy Lifestyles Division of the American Medical Association and board regent for the American College of Preventive Medicine. She also directed programs in heart disease, stroke and cancer prevention at the California Department of Health Services. In 2018, she convened the inaugural Summit on Happiness Science in Health Care, which led to scholarly publications and a groundbreaking book on how to integrate happiness science into medical practice, Roots of Positive Change, Optimizing Health Care with Positive Psychology.

John Meyer, MD, MPH
John D Meyer MD, MPH is Professor of Environmental Medicine and Public Health, Interim Director of the Division of Occupational Medicine, and Director of the Occupational Medicine Residency Program at the Selikoff Center for Occupational Medicine at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. He also serves as Editor-in-Chief of the American Journal of Industrial Medicine. Dr. Meyer received his MD from Cornell University Medical College in New York, and MPH from the Boston University School of Public Health. His research focuses on reproductive hazards and risks for low birth weight and prematurity, with a focus on the psychosocial hazards of work, and health disparities in minority populations arising from work characteristics. He has been the PI on several grants from NIOSH and NICHD investigating occupational characteristics and their link to adverse pregnancy outcomes. He established a consultation service in occupational and environmental reproductive hazards for working pregnant women, and developed guidance documents on environmental reproductive hazards, including the nail salon and beauty industry, for pregnant women and obstetricians. Dr. Meyer has served on the NIOSH Study Section for Occupational Safety and Health, the NBME/USMLE Epidemiology and Biostatistics Committee and as president of the Association of Occupational and Environmental Clinics (AOEC). For his work in multidisciplinary teaching of residents, promotion of OM resident research, and his research activities in reproductive health and occupational social disparities, Dr. Meyer was awarded the ACPM "Rising Star" award in 1998 and the ACOEM Centennial Award for Education and Research in 2016.

Mirza I. Rahman, MD, MPH, FAAFP, FACPM
Senior Vice President & Chief Global Pharmacovigilance Officer

Dr. Mirza Rahman is the Senior Vice President & Chief Global Pharmacovigilance Officer at Otsuka Pharmaceutical Development & Commercialization (OPDC), Inc., where he is responsible for leading the pharmacovigilance function across the company. Additionally, Dr. Rahman has been responsible for leading Global Medical Affairs at OPDC in 2015.

Shortly after joining Otsuka in 2013, Dr. Rahman led the Otsuka Global Pharmacovigilance Reform Initiative, and currently leads all of Otsuka's pharmacovigilance operations globally. In addition to setting the strategic direction of the company with respect to pharmacovigilance, Dr. Rahman is responsible for the overall pharmacovigilance business function, while leading a team of more than 840 people globally.

Also, in 2013, Dr. Rahman created the American College of Preventive Medicine (ACPM) Otsuka Pharmacovigilance Physician Program in Global Medical Safety. In addition, for the past 16 years, he has been a volunteer attending physician at the Bryn Mawr Family Practice Residency Program, where he teaches the residents about Evidence Based Medicine. He has also served as a faculty member for the ACPM Board Review course since 2008. Moreover, Dr. Rahman has been an Adjunct Professor at the Temple University School of Pharmacy, where he taught several courses in their Graduate Program on Pharmacovigilance, Pharmacoepidemiology, and Pharmacoeconomics.

Dr. Rahman joined Otsuka from Merck Research Laboratories, where he was an Executive Director in the Clinical Risk Management/Global Safety department. There, he led a team that performed global pharmacovigilance and risk management activities for more than 425 Merck products. Before this, he was a Worldwide Vice President, Health Economics & Reimbursement at Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics, Johnson & Johnson.

Prior to practicing pharmaceutical medicine, Dr. Rahman was an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Family Medicine, Epidemiology & Biostatistics, and the Ireland Cancer Research Center at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Preceding this, he served as the Medical Director of the Tri-Community Health Center in Suffolk County, NY.

Currently, Dr. Rahman serves as the Treasurer on the ACPM and is a member of the Executive Committee of the ACPM Board of Regents. He has served on the ACPM Finance Committee since 2010. He has also served or currently serves on several Governing Boards or Boards of Directors, including being the Treasurer, from 2004 to 2007, of the Governing Board of the American Journal of Preventive Medicine and the Secretary-Treasurer, from 1999 to 2002, of the Board of Directors of the Association of Teachers of Preventive Medicine Foundation.

Dr. Rahman earned his M.P.H. degree from Columbia University, his M.D. degree from the Stony Brook School of Medicine, and a B.Sc. degree from the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education at City College of the City University of New York. He is a Fellow of both the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American College of Preventive Medicine. In 2014, the ACPM bestowed upon Dr. Rahman, their highest honor, the ACPM Distinguished Service Award.

Ken Spaeth, MD, MPH
Dr. Spaeth is Chief of the Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine at Northwell Health in New York. This his fourth year teaching the Environmental Health portion of the ACPM Board Review course.

Brenna VanFrank, MD, MSPH
Dr. Brenna VanFrank, MD, MSPH is the senior medical officer in the Office on Smoking and Health (OSH) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). She is responsible for providing input on the medical aspects of OSH’s scientific research and communications and serves as a scientific and medical consultant for programs and projects. She has particular interest in the integration of healthcare and public health and the use of epidemiologic data for public health action.

Dr. VanFrank joined CDC in 2014 as an Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) officer and has worked on a variety of public health topics including tobacco prevention and control, nutrition and obesity, and emergency preparedness and response. Prior to joining CDC, Dr. VanFrank was Chief Resident and pediatrics faculty at the University of New Mexico. Dr. VanFrank received her BS and MSPH from the University of Utah and her MD from the University of Wisconsin. She is board certified in pediatrics and preventive medicine and is a member of the national Delta Omega Honorary Society in public health.

Jill Waalen, MD, MS, MPH
Jill Waalen, MD, MS, MPH is a clinical biostatistics consultant at the Scripps Research Translational Institute. She is Board-Certified in Preventive Medicine, is a Fellow of the American College of Preventive Medicine, and serves as Associate Director of the General Preventive Medicine Residency Program at the University of California, San Diego. In addition to conducting her own research focused on digital medicine and consulting on study design and data analysis with researchers at SRTI, Dr. Waalen serves as director for several biostatistics courses focused on equipping scientists with the statistical knowledge and programming skills for advanced data analysis. She is an author on more than 115 peer-reviewed publications and currently serves as Statistics Editor for the Nature Digital Medicine. She has held several leadership positions for ACPM, including Chairperson of the annual Board Review Course and Director of the In-Service Examination.
