Assessing Preventive Services Delivery in Special Populations
About this Sesison
Clinical and community preventive services form the cornerstone of clinical preventive medicine, population medicine, and community medicine practice, whether they are applied in the context of the public health or healthcare systems. These services have been shown to significantly improve patient health outcomes, via rigorous primary research studies, systematic reviews of such studies, and guideline development (i.e., USPSTF, CPSTF, and ACIP recommendations). To achieve equitable health outcomes, there is a need to evaluate or tailor preventive services targeting disadvantaged, marginalized, or other special populations. This session provides 3 real world examples where this aspect of preventive medicine and public health practice was explored: health promotion through social media; vaccination perspectives among college students during the COVID-19 pandemic; and gender disparities in screening mammography.
  • Using Social Media in Health Promotion – The role of the messenger (25 minutes)
  • Vaccination: A Snapshot of Rates, Perceptions, and Health Literacy on a Public Northeastern University Campus (25 minutes)
  • Disparities in Mammography Rates of Transgender Individuals (25 minutes)
