Description: This session will focus on the clinical tools developed by two key national preventive medicine organizations: The Women’s Preventive Services Initiative (WPSI) and the National Coalition for Sexual Health.
The WPSI is a coalition of national health professional organizations and consumer and patient advocates with expertise in women’s health across the lifespan to develop, review, and update recommendations for women’s preventive healthcare services. In this talk, attendees will understand the origins of the WPSI, what the WPSI does and how it is structured, learn how to locate and utilize women's preventive services tools for clinical encounters, and discuss the clinical imperative for improving the health of women with timely preventive services.
The second talk will address the fact that many providers lack testing and treatment knowledge and cited lack of time, discomfort with sexual history-taking and genital exam, and patient reluctance as barriers. The National Coalition for Sexual Health has developed three new tools to help providers promote sexual health equity. They will discuss how to integrate sexual health conversations and recommended preventive services into routine visits; how to cultivate a clinical environment that supports the delivery of inclusive sexual health services; and how to provide trauma informed care for providers performing physical examinations in sexual and reproductive health settings.
