Speaker Dr. Kesler


Denece Kesler, MD, MPH, is a Professor and the Preventive Medicine Section Chief in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of New Mexico, where she is also the founder and Program Director for the Public Health and General Preventive Medicine Residency program. Dr. Kesler dedicates the majority of her career effort to preventive medicine, with a focus on public health and general preventive medicine as well as occupational and environmental medicine. Dr. Kesler created the original application for the successful ACGME accreditation of the residency program and led the creation of the public health and preventive medicine curriculum for the program. She has a long history of involvement in medical education for physicians both at the University of New Mexico and in external positions that she has held. She serves as the PI for several HRSA grants and oversees two occupational and environmental medicine clinics as well as the Radiation Exposure Screening and Education Program (RESEP) which serves former uranium mining workers in NM. Dr. Kesler serves as a consultant to both University departments and to community organizations, with an emphasis on health and safety in research facilities and in health care settings
